Boxscore
Francisco Liriano and Ubaldo Jimenez pitched 6 scoreless innings against each other Wednesday in Minnesota. During those 6 innings, Francisco Liriano only gave up 1 hit.
Unfortunately, none of that matters, because that 6 inning stretch started in the SECOND inning. The first inning was a different story. Liriano gave up 4 hits, hit two batters, gave up a walk, and 3 runs in the first inning to give the Rockies a quick 3-0 lead from which the Twins never recovered.
Looking on the bright side, Liriano, who has had confidence issues in recent years, bounced back wonderfully after a terrible first inning. He completely dominated Colorado for the next 6 innings, striking out 4 in the course of those innings.
The Twins offense, though, was up against too much. They were able to get 8 hits off of Jimenez in 8 innings, but they were only able to convert 1 of them into a run. Minnesota went 1 for 5 with runners in scoring position.
The little offensive success that the Twins had came from odd places. The lone RBI for the game came from Butera. Matt Tolbert had a good day hitting, going 2 for 3.
Like so many times this year, the Twins went into the game in a position to get the series sweep, but they were unable to pull it off.
