Jon Rauch blew his first save as the closer for the Minnesota Twins, but came back to win the game.  Blackburn started the game, but struggled early, giving up 5 earned runs (and an unearned one) in 4 and a third innings.  He gave up 10 hits and 2 walks in those innings.  The Twins bullpen got a lot of work in the game, with Mahay, Neshek, Crain, Duensing, Guerreir, and Rauch all seeing time at the mound.

It was raining pretty hard in the late innings, but they kept playing through it.  That caused several plays that would have been “routine” to be a little harder for both teams.

The final out of the game was a questionable call.  Hardy fielded a ball at short and went for the force out at second.  The replays show that the runner was clearly on the bag in time, but the ump called him out.  At that point there’s really nothing that can be changed, though, and obviously the Twins were up by 2 with 2 outs in extra innings, so it probably didn’t make that much of a difference.

Morneau hit his third home run of the season.  It was a 2 run shot in the 7th and it tied the game.  The Twins had trailed for the entire game up to that point.

Morneau, Mauer, and Cuddyer all had two RBIs.  Hudson and Span also had one a piece.

Mauer was on fire at the plate.  He got 5 hits off of 6 at-bats.  That brought his batting average up to .381 on the season.  Morneau went 2 for 5 plus a walk.  His batting average is .359.

On the flip side of that discussion is Jason Kubel.  He went 0 for 5 with a walk.  His batting average is now .169
