TEAM NEWS Th 1 Would the Twins Trade Joe Mauer?Would the Twins Trade Joe Mauer?

Yahoo Sports has a “rumor” posted that since contract talks between the Twins and Joe Mauer are proceeding slowly, the Twins are going to have to start contemplating the idea of trading him.

The logic makes sense… it’s the same process that the Twins went through with Johann Santana a few years ago.  If the team can’t come to an agreement with Mauer, they really HAVE to trade him, otherwise they’ll lose him and get nothing in return.

The word is that the Twins are offering Mauer around $20 million a year to play, which is an insanely huge amount of money coming out of Minnesota.  The other word is, though, that the Twins catcher wants $25 million.

This may be a “Captain Obvious” statement, but the Twins really need to get something done here.  Joe Mauer is the biggest thing to hit Twins baseball since Kirby Puckett.  He’s good for the team as far as winning goes, and he’s good for the team as far as drawing fans goes.

They need to get this done.
