Minnesota Twins vs Detroit Tigers

lirianotongue2 Twins will face the Tigers Tonight (4 27 10)Tonight the Twins will open their first series against the Tigers this season.  So far the Twins have won every series they’ve been a part of, but still haven’t managed to sweep anyone.  They do, however, have the second best record in Major League Baseball so far at 13-6 (only Tampa Bay is better at this point).

The Tigers are 2.5 games back in the division, so a series win by the Twins would be very helpful.  It’s still very early in the season, of course, but it would be nice if the Twins could start building on their lead now to avoid a one-game playoff at the end of the season.  (They seem to want to make that a habit).

Justin Morneau is on quite a streak so far.  He’s reached base safely in all 19 of the Twins’ games, and he has a hit in 16 of them.  He’s currently hitting .368 with 4 home runs.

Joe Mauer is also hitting well so far, leading the team in batting average at .382.  He hasn’t exactly gotten into the swing of things power-wise yet, though, only hitting one home run so far this season.

Tonight the Twins will be putting Francisco Liriano on the mound.  He’s 2-0 so far this year with a 1.29 ERA.  I’m really pulling for him this year.  Lifetime against the Tigers he’s 3-1 with a 4.56 ERA.

They’ll be facing Justin Verlander.  So far Verlander is 1-1 with a 6.95 ERA.  He’s 5-6 lifetime against the Twins with an ERA of  4.28.
