Twins Won’t Pick A Closer Just Yet

TEAM NEWS M 1 Twins Wont Pick A Closer Just Yet

The Twins will begin their season with a committee of closers.

Manager Ron Gardenhire said that the Twins will not choose a closer to replace Joe Nathan when the season starts in a week.  Instead they’ll go with a Closer-By-Committee lineup.

Probable members of that “committee” are right-handers Matt Guerrier, Jon Rauch and Jesse Crain and left-hander Jose Mijares.  Francisco Liriano, who many people thought might get the closer job, was not mentioned.

“Liriano’s a starter,” Gardenhire said.

I personally like the fact that Liriano is not going to be used in that position, as I’ve mentioned before.

I’m not sure, though, about the committee thing.  I guess time will tell.  Typically Gardenhire has been able to make good use of what he has had, so maybe I shouldn’t doubt him.
